How SCPS Approves Applications
Every application goes through the same review before it can be used with students.
How SCPS approves an application
Before an application can be used with students, a staff member submits a request that is reviewed in order by the school principal or department supervisor, the district instructional team, and the district's purchasing and data privacy teams. The privacy review centers on a Data Privacy Agreement: a signed contract in which the vendor agrees to Florida's and the district's requirements for protecting student information. An application is approved only when that agreement is in place, or, in rare cases, when the Deputy Superintendent grants a documented exception with specific conditions of use.
Approved applications appear on this site. Teachers list the applications they use in their classrooms, and some applications are assigned by the district based on course enrollment. Lists are refreshed nightly.
The district's requirements are set out in School Board Policy 8305.
What the statuses mean
Every application on this site carries one of three district statuses.
- Approved applications have a Data Privacy Agreement in place and no usage restrictions.
- Approved with Conditions applications may be used only under the conditions shown with the application.
- Not Approved applications may not be used with students in Seminole County Public Schools.
Approved
The vendor has signed a Data Privacy Agreement with the district and the application met the district's instructional and privacy requirements. No usage restrictions apply.
Approved with Conditions
The application may be used only under specific conditions set by the district, such as limits on grade levels or on who may use it. The conditions are shown with the application everywhere it appears on this site.
Not Approved
The application did not meet the district's privacy or instructional requirements, or the district already provides a tool that serves the same purpose. It may not be used with students.
